READING/DISCUSSION GROUP
With Lesley Steyn

Lesley Steyn works as a psychoanalyst and psychoanalytic psychotherapist and serves on committees involved in training at the British Psychoanalytic Association and British Association of Psychotherapists. She has worked in the NHS and teaches there and at other psychotherapy and counselling institutions.


6 Sunday mornings, 10.00 – 11.30 a.m. in 2011:


Feb 6th and 20th,

March 6th and 20th,
April 3rd and 17th


Location: Sternberg Centre, 80 East End Road, N3 2SY


Fee: £100 for 6 meetings (£120 for graduates of other training institutions). Maximum 6 members.


A reading/discussion group that will meet fortnightly to discuss and examine 6 key papers. The aim of the group is to increase
psychodynamic understanding in key areas of theory and technique, based on the following papers:-


1. A Theory of Thinking, WR Bion, (1962) in Second Thoughts. (reprinted in 2004, Karnac)


2. The Aim of Psycho-analysis, R. Money-Kyrle, (1971) International Journal of Psychoanalysis, 52, 103 - 106.


3. Transference: The Total Situation, B. Joseph, (1985) International Journal of Psychoanalysis, 66, 447 - 454.


4. Tolerating the Countertransference: A mutative process, DV Carpy, (1989) International Journal of Psychoanalysis, 70, 287 - 294.


5. The Oedipus situation and the depressive position, R. Britton, (1992) in Clinical Lectures on Klein & Bion. Ed: Robin Anderson, Routledge, in New Library of Psychoanalysis, 14, 33-45.


6. Phallus, Penis and mental space, D. Birksted-Breen, (1996) International Journal of Psychoanalysis, 77, 649.


The papers will be distributed (approximately) 2 weeks before the Group meets so that each may be read in preparation for the Group meeting. The Group will be limited to 6 participants who are psychodynamically trained graduates of a recognised training course. It will meet in the office of the Manor House Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling, 80 East End Road, London N3 2SY.
